Frequently Asked Questions

Vertical wall printing is relatively new and unknown in the United States. As the first vertical wall printer in the area, we get a lot of questions about the technology and process. Check back often as we will update these from time to time!

The word "wall" in this question actually limits the utility of this technology. We can print a high-resolution, full color image on virtually any vertical surface. It could be a wall, door, or window, but it could also be an art canvas or a jukebox. We'll print just about any image on just about any vertical surface!

Think of this as an exciting alternative to more traditional wall coverings like wallpaper or vinyl decals, and a cost-effective and faster alternative to hand-painted murals.

No! Our printhead features Ultrasonic sensors that constantly measure the distance between the printhead and the surface to maintain a clean, even print even on bumpy surfaces like brick, stucco, and concrete. Obviously, the texture of these surfaces will show up in the print, but many clients feel that this adds depth and character to their artwork!

Our printer is extremely versatile and is capable of printing on a wide range of surfaces including painted surfaces, brick, sheet rock, stucco, paper, wood, stone, concrete, canvas, and cinder block. The advanced UV technology extends the possibilities to nonporous materials like glass, plastic, tile, metal, and more. We regularly expand our capabilities by testing new materials, so if there's something you want to print on and you aren't sure, message us about it and we'll take a look!

From the time we arrive, we are usually setup and ready to begin printing within an hour. From there, we can print up to 20 square feet per hour, depending on the complexity of the print, and our average job is somewhere around 5'x8' or 40 square feet. Most prints are completed in a single day, in about 4-6 hours.

We will provide a specific and accurate time estimate for your custom project in your official quote.

We use UV (Ultra-Violet) inks that are neither solvent nor oil-based. They are a unique blend of compounds that are specially formulated to cure when exposed to UV light instead of oxidation. This means the ink dries immediately as it is being printed, resulting in sharper, more vibrant images than regular conventional inks.

UV printing also offers several environmental benefits. They are free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and do not release harmful fumes into the air during the curing process.

No. Our printer is contactless and never even touches the wall. In the future, if you decided to change the style in the room, you can simply paint over the print. Make sure to give us a call when you're ready to update that design!

Yes, our UV ink is non-toxic and completely safe for people, animals, and the environment.

The printer itself is a heavy piece of machinery that moves as it works, so during the printing process, it is very important to secure any pets or children and keep the workspace protected from interruption.

The print will work best if the wall is clean and dry. Holes and cracks should be filled in and sanded down prior to printing. For best results, the print area should be primed. We offer a priming service add-on for $5 per square foot with a minimum priming order size of 40 square feet.

Yes! We can print indoors or outdoors on virtually any vertical surface. For outdoor print sessions, we will want to pay close attention to the weather forecast on our scheduled date. Rain, snow, high winds, or other adverse weather conditions may necessitate rescheduling the job until conditions improve.

For best results, we'd like to print in an environment with a temperature range between 60° – 90° F (15° – 32° C), and 10% – 80% relative humidity.

The short answer is: the limit does not exist. Through a process called "image stitching" we can merge multiple prints into one vast mural, effectively allowing us to make a print as large as you want. Our extended rail system allows us to print up to a maximum height of 8ft 8in, which is the maximum print height before image stitching has to occur.

Please note that, the larger the print is, the higher the resolution of the source image will need to be to print without quality loss. A vector image can be scaled infinitely without quality loss and is our preferred image type for extra-large prints.

The image stitching process involves precise image editing and extra setup time to ensure that the images align perfectly. Image stitching can happen both vertically and horizontally, allowing significant expansion of available print dimensions and essentially creating a limitless canvas size!

Our base print rate is $25 per square foot. The minimum order size is 10 square feet. We offer a wall priming add-on service for $5 per square foot with a minimum priming order size of 40 square feet (because this requires an additional day and trip to the job site) and a clear protective topcoat service for $5 per square foot. There is no minimum size for the protective topcoat service.

There may be additional charges for non-printing services such as graphic design, professional art gallery fees, equipment rental (scaffolding, for example), and mileage for jobs more than 50 miles away from our office.

Prior to agreeing to a project, we will provide a detailed, itemized quote with clear, transparent pricing so you can make an informed decision about how to proceed.

We have the ability to print both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, our prints should last over 10 years without noticeable fading. Outdoor prints should maintain their vibrancy for 3-5 years, though factors such as prolonged direct exposure to sunlight could accelerate the fading process, as it would with anything colorful.

We offer a protective clearcoat add-on service that will extend the longevity of our prints while also making them more resistant to wear and tear and make them easier to clean and maintain.

Absolutely! In order to blow an image up to a large size without sacrificing quality, we either need a vector image or a high-resolution source image. If the image you have is not a vector, we have a service available to convert it so that we can scale it and print it. Pricing for this service will vary based on the complexity of the image. Logos and line drawings are much easier to vectorize than detailed photographs.

We will work closely with you to understand your vision and do all we can to bring it to life!

Please note that if you are providing an image, you must warrant that you own or have obtained explicit permission from the copyright and trademark owners for any characters, logos, or images that you provide for us to print.

Yes! If you don't have an image or logo to provide, or if you want your image modified, enhanced, or changed, we can help create a custom design that works in your room. We will send concept images for your approval before finalizing project details!

We are passionate about supporting local artists in the Appalachian region. Our Artist Gallery allows local artists to sell their work for printing on your walls. The majority of the proceeds from these sales go directly to the artist. You get authentic, regional art to enhance your home or business and support your local creative community at the same time! Win-win!

Our printers are optimized to produce high-quality prints near photo quality resolution up to 2880 dpi, ensuring crisp, detailed images.

No. The closest our printer can get to the corners are 9.25 inches from the left corner and 14 inches to the right corner. There is also a minimum clearance from the floor to the bottom of the print.

Our printer uses a CMYKW ink system, meaning the foundation colors are cyan, magenta, yellow, black, and white. This allows us to create virtually any color accurately, and we are able to print on white, dark, or colored surfaces!
